The second of five children, Cousins developed the knack of playing the tunes she heard by ear on the old family piano. Rose left the Island to pursue a secondary education, and on her first day, made friends with a fellow resident who owned a guitar and set out to learn how to play. In 1997, at the age of 21, Cousins tried out at an open-mic night in Halifax, and proceeded to play the circuit steadily for the next four years. She performed her own songs, with lyrics, for the first time in 2001. After working full time for six years and playing on the weekends, she left a full-time job in September 2005. A month later, a CBC Radio producer heard her and approached her with offers of support. What followed was the recording of her first full-length album, If You Were For Me. Cousins has a number of music awards to her credit, the most recent being the 2008 East Coast Music Awards Female Recording of the Year. She’s also featured in May 2008 Chatelaine as one of 80 Canadian Women to Watch. http://www.rosecousins.com/
