Be sure to mark Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, 2008 on your calendars. Yes – the festival is moving to two days this year. We’re very excited about the addition of our Friday night program featuring the Barrie Folk Society’s annual Youth Song Competition, followed by a special performance by Silk Road. Tickets are $10 for this special show. Ten young finalists from the Simcoe County area will perform for the audience and a panel of judges, including BarrieFolk AD Arnie Ivsins, singer/songwriter Carol Teal, BarrieFolk performer David Gillis, and Corey Heuvel, winner of last year’s Youth Song Competition.

Saturday’s full day of music will kick off at 11:30am with concurrent concerts taking place in The Last Class Bar and Grill and the Georgian College main stage theatre. The afternoon will feature a third workshop location with interactive workshops featuring luthier Glen Reid and, the eclectic instruments of Silk Road. The Six String Nation Guitar will also be featured at this year’s festival, and all musicians in attendance are welcome to take part in the open stage at 5:30pm.

The main stage evening show will begin at 6:30pm and feature performances by Rose Cousins, Silk Road, The Breakmen, Mike Stevens and Raymond McLain, Searson, and Garnet Rogers (pictured above).
