Our next open stage is April 2

We’re partnering with the Barrie Public Library again to host two monthly open stages. An evening with Stephen Fearing – May 5

BarrieFolk is excited to host Stephen Fearing, one of Canada’s finest singer-songwriters, on Sunday, May 5.

Born in Vancouver and raised in both Dublin, Ireland and back in British Columbia, Stephen has been named one of Canada’s finest singer-songwriters. With a mesmerizing blend of roots, folk, and pop he cultivated national and international audiences for his music, building it ‘old school’ through countless performances at intimate venues, concert halls, and festivals of all sizes, including major events like the Stanfest, Reading Festival, Shrewsbury Folk Festival, and WOMAD.

Stephen has released 12 solo albums and, over the course of his celebrated career, collaborated with artists such as Bruce Cockburn, Rosanne Cash, Richard Thompson, Cassandra Wilson, Nick Lowe, Sarah McLachlan, Rose Cousins, Murray McLauchlan, Margo Timmins, Erin Costelo, Suzie Vinnick, and many more.

In 1996 he co-founded Canadian supergroup Blackie and The Rodeo Kings with Colin Linden and Tom Wilson. Almost 25 years later and with nine albums to their credit, the band has become one of the most respected names in North American roots-rock. Stephen also released two albums and toured as one half of the duo Fearing & White with fellow Irish son Andy White.

Stephen’s abiding love for his craft and ability to delight audiences are reflected in multiple JUNO and Canadian Folk Music nominations and awards and an ever-expanding touring circuit throughout North America, the UK, and Europe.

The concert starts at 7 p.m. and takes place at Burton Avenue United Church (37 Burton Ave., Barrie). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Please arrive promptly as latecomers will be seated during appropriate breaks in the show.

Open stage

We'd love you to come out to one of our two  monthly open stages in partnership with the Barrie Public Library!

We host one on the second Wednesday of the month at the Painswick location near the Zehrs plaza (48 Dean Ave.). It runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Please note that the February open stage will take place on Feb. 13 to avoid any romantic Valentine's Day conflicts.

This will be a more traditional open stage with a sign-up board at the library. Spots will be filled on a first-signed-up basis that evening.

Jeff Miller will be your friendly host.  If you want more info on the Wednesday open stage, email Jeff or call him at 705.252.1750.

KC Patterson hosts the open stage at the downtown library location (60 Worsley St.). It takes place on the first Tuesday of the month.
